I vividly remember hearing Stupid Girl being played on the radio and thinking, emphatically, that it was one of the best songs I’d ever heard. I must have been about 11 and I’m fairly confident that I had no idea what the song was about. A few years after that I remember buying Version 2.0 – one of the first CDs I bought, having recently upgraded from tapes. This simultaneously makes me feel very old and very young.
Compared to most of the other music I was in to at that time – *cough* Boyzone, PJ & Duncan and 911 *cough* – Garbage were (and still are!) just so darn cool.
Over 20 years later the songs from those first 2 albums continue to blow my mind when I listen to them. The songs from the next four albums also sound amazing, but Garbage and Version 2.0 will forever be a perfect part of my youth.
So imagine my delight when I heard they were doing a book.
And not just any book…
This Is The Noise That Keeps Me Awake is so much more than just a book because Garbage are so much more than just a band.
Garbage are known around the world for songs that mix pop sweetness with the dour thunder of industrial music and the rhythm punch of hip-hop. Now, for the first time, the four band members tell the story of that music in their own words.
It is crammed with the most incredible behind-the-scenes, rare and personal photographs; memorabilia including old gig posters and tickets, set lists, hand-written notes, backstage passes; interviews and in-depth information about the band members, the history and legacy of the band and how they made music.
And cocktail recipes!
It’s a book that words cannot describe; so I’ll leave you with these:
A must-have (and perfect gift) for any fan.
