The classic storybook segments of Super Mario Galaxy get a physical release in Rosalina’s Storybook. Our story begins a very, very long time ago with a young girl who spotted a rusted spaceship holding a small star child, Luma. This is the tale of that young girl and that star child going on a great journey together, searching for one thing and finding something else altogether. This is the tale of Rosalina and the Lumas and the secret of their special bond.

The Mario series has always been the golden standard when it comes to platforming video games and 2007’s Super Mario Galaxy was no exception. With its stunning outer space theme, beautiful music and tremendous gameplay – it stands comfortably amongst the greatest games ever made and has the high sales to match. Now, the game has come back it to the public consciousness with both its re-release along with its sequel for the Nintendo Switch and next year’s follow up to the 2023 animated Super Mario Bros film being heavily inspired by the 2007 game.
One of the long-term contributions to the series the game made was the introduction of Rosalina, the guardian of the Lumas on the Comet Observatory and Mario’s guide in his latest Princess Peach rescue mission. She immediately stood out as one of the more fleshed out characters in the Mario series with her mysterious aura and backstory. This was aided by the storybook segments of the game that revealed her childhood encounters with the Lumas and her journey into outer space.

Now for the first time, players can re-experience Rosalina’s Storybook in a physical release courtesy of Nintendo and Dark Horse. Release in a sleek hardcover format, the finished product looks like it could have jumped right off the screen into the player’s hands. The original art from the storybook segments is included in its entirety telling Rosalina’s origin from beginning to end. It remains a touching story and demonstrates the enigmatic qualities of both Rosalina and Super Mario Galaxy in general.
This release is a crowd pleaser all-round. Longtime fans and collectors will want this on their shelves to complete their Super Mario Galaxy collections, and it is a potential primer for the 2026 Super Mario Galaxy film. Beyond that, it works as a standalone picture book that will enchant readers of all ages.
Rosalina’s Storybook is out 25 November from Dark Horse (9781506754901, h/b, £22.99)
