Fairy Tail Master's Edition Turnaround Kodansha

Graphic Novel Spotlight: Fairy Tail Master’s Edition 1

Fairy Tail Master's Edition Turnaround Kodansha

Since its debut in 2006, Fairy Tail has become one of the biggest manga series of the current era, having developed a huge fan base and been adapted into various media including anime, film and video games. At 50 volumes and showing no sign of stopping, it might seem intimidating to newcomers. Thankfully, Kodansha are remedying that with the first volume of the Master’s Edition series.

In a world where magic and fantasy runs rampant, Lucy Heartfilia – a young, rebellious celestial wizard – has a dream: to join Fairy Tail, the world’s most rambunctious and powerful magical guild! When she happens to meet one of Fairy Tail’s top wizards, he turns out to be not quite what she expected: a slob traveling with a flying cat. But the promise of adventure is too much to resist and soon Lucy finds herself amongst the ranks of the Fairy Tail guild where her life is never the same again.

Fairy Tail is everything you could want in a shonen action series. Plenty of action and fighting, a hot-blooded (no pun intended) protagonist in Natsu and more unique characters than you can count – all rendered in Hiro Mashima’s distinct and exciting art.

Collecting the first five volumes of the series at a bargain price, this edition includes the debuts of lead characters including Lucy, Natsu, Happy, Gray and Erza. It is also packed with content including Lucy’s first mission as part of the Fairy Tail Guild, Team Natsu’s attempt to steal a valuable book from the nefarious Duke Everlue, their battle against Dark Guild Eisenwald to prevent an assassination attempt on the Guild Masters and Natsu’s ballsy attempt at completing an S-Class Mission. Like the Attack on Titan Colossal Edition, the Master’s Edition is presented in an oversized format and uses higher quality paper that greatly enhances Mashima’s storytelling and character designs.

This edition is a perfect introduction for newcomers to the series and those looking for a new shonen manga series to sink their teeth into. Any long-time Fairy Tail fans looking for an enhanced version of this modern favourite will also find plenty to enjoy.

Fairy Tail Master’s Edition 1 collects the first five volumes of Fairy Tail and is published 12 November by Kodansha Comics.
