Shield the complete collection omnibus Marvel Turnaround

One of the cornerstones of the Marvel Universe, Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division (better known as S.H.I.E.L.D) has been a source of some of comic’s most innovative moments and significant contributions to Marvel mythology.

Among these is the arrival of Nick Fury, who in the short time from his debut went from leader of Elite World War II platoon The Howling Commandos to the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. and as a result, one of the main players behind the scenes of the Marvel Universe and one of the most iconic characters in espionage. Also debuting were several villainous groups and individuals who would plague Fury and other Marvel heroes for years to come including Hydra, A.I.M. and Baron Von Strucker.

Originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Nick Fury’s adventures were an exciting mix of Cold War drama and Marvel adventures that was like nothing else on the stands. However, it was the arrival of Jim Steranko that truly put the series on the map. Showcasing a psychedelic style and creative usage of layouts and colours which were unheard of at the time, Steranko cemented himself as one of the greatest visionaries in the comic industry. There are few fans who have not got the iconic images of Steranko’s covers for Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (particularly issue 4) scorched into their mind’s eye.

This omnibus edition is not only a must have for collectors and fans of the Marvel Omnibus format, but is also an important showcase of an exciting period in comics when new styles were being formed that would shape the way comics were looked at for years to come.

S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Complete Collection Omnibus is published 20 October by Marvel.
